London Collage Project 2025
|
From May 25-May 31st, I participated in the inaugural London Collage Project, led by Les Jones, owner of Contemporary Collage Magazine, and mentored by American collage artist and painter, Cecil Touchon. In total there were 17 international collage artists, working together for the week in a single room in Hackney Wick, a gritty, urban and vibrant part of East London.
The mandate for the week was to create artwork using only the materials we sourced around London. I hit charity shops for books and pulled loads of billboards off walls. We worked hard for five days, comparing glue, critiquing each other's work, getting more supplies from the surrounding walls, then readied the studio for two pop up exhibitions for the public. Highlights of the week were -- NOT working alone in my studio, bouncing ideas off other artists, daily group critiques, new colleagues from around the world. |
