Billboards posted illegally on public property are fair game for collage art. When pulled down they can be many layers deep. I soak these scraps in water and pull apart the pieces to see what treasures lie within!

Most of my pieces start with at least one layer of paper glued down before anything else goes onto the canvas. I have collected books, magazines, ticket stubs, maps, menus, whatever looks like it has potential. I have a studio full of paper, just waiting its turn.

Making my own stamps is a big part of my process. The results are very organic, as the paint never transfers from the stamp to the surface the same way twice.

I use a gelatin plate to create painted papers which then get cut, ripped and glued onto my work. The first layer of paint that goes onto the plate ends up being the top layer of the finished paper. Each time I pull up the paper, bits of paint remain, so the next pull gets a bit grungier. Perfect! Here I am using handmade stamps and stencils to create textures.
